What size is a cot bed duvet?
For the smallest sleepers, there are cot-sized duvets, which measure 120cm x 150cm. Cot duvets are for young children who sleep in a cot bed, ideal for toddlers aged one and over only (please note: babies under 1 year should never be given a duvet, quilt or pillow). Cot bed duvets are typically a lighter tog, as young children are less able to regulate their body temperature as they sleep and can overheat more easily.
What size is a single duvet?
Typically measuring at 135cm x 200cm, this size duvet is designed for a standard single bed. It provides ample coverage for one person, allowing you to get a comfortable night’s sleep without too much excess fabric. A single duvet is also ideal for bed sharers who prefer different duvet weights or who fight over the duvet at night. Known as the Scandinavian sleeping method, it makes bedtimes for couples more comfortable and peaceful.
What size is a double duvet?
With dimensions of 200cm x 200cm, the double duvet is one of the most common duvet sizes. This size ensures that two people are snugly accommodated, making it a popular choice for couples. A double duvet is also recommended for small double or queen-size beds, however, they are a great choice for single beds if you want to provide extra comfort.
What size is a king size duvet?
Measuring at 230cm x 220cm, a king duvet provides extra length and width compared to a double. This size is well-suited for larger beds, offering more coverage for enhanced comfort. It’s an ideal choice for couples or individuals who love to spread out and keep away any nighttime drafts. Don’t forget to add your pillows of choice for an indulgent and comfortable night’s sleep.
What size is a Super King duvet?
Finally, stepping up in size, is a super king duvet which measures 260cm x 220cm. Designed for even larger beds, a super king provides a truly luxurious and spacious sleeping experience thanks to its extra width and space. This wider duvet will hang further down the sides of your bed for a more lavish appearance. Don’t forget to place your favourite Christy throws and cushions on top of your duvet for the ultimate sleep sanctuary.
Duvet size variations
While the above duvet sizes are standard, some variations may exist based on manufacturers or specific bedding collections. Some duvet sets might include duvets that are slightly bigger or smaller than the standard dimensions. These variations can occur due to design choices, regional preferences, or unique product lines. Always check our product descriptions for the exact measurements to ensure a proper fit for your bed.
What is the difference between a duvet and a bedspread?
A duvet is a type of quilted blanket, except it’s much thicker and designed to be the main thing that you sleep underneath. Unlike a throw or bedspread, duvets are typically filled with materials such as down, feathers, or synthetic fibres, designed to trap heat and create a cosy sleeping environment. They come in various thicknesses, which are often referred to as a tog, and they come partnered with a duvet cover, which can be switched and washed to maintain hygiene.
A bedspread, like a duvet, is a quilted blanket that often has a synthetic fibre filling stitched to keep it from clumping. This is, however, a stand-alone bed topper designed to be placed over the top of your bed sheets. It’s typically not as thick as a duvet and does not have a separate cover.
Should my duvet correspond to my mattress size?
While more often than not the duvet size you choose will tally up with the size of your bed, sometimes this won’t be the case. We recommend that you measure the total length, height, and width of your mattress and bed frame, as these can potentially affect your duvet size. If you share a bed, you might want to choose a duvet that is one size larger than your actual bed and mattress. Don’t forget about your mattress protectors and toppers for an extra layer of protection.
Indulge in duvets of all sizes with Christy
Hopefully, you’ve now discovered what the different duvet sizes are and have realised that choosing the right duvet size is an essential step towards creating your ideal sleep sanctuary. Too small a duvet means that your mattress space won’t be filled, and you could get cold during the night, while too big a duvet can swamp your bed and make you feel claustrophobic.
